About

Industrial Rescue and Emergency Training (IRET) is a Central Queensland based provider of industrial rescue standby services and emergency training for high-risk worksites.
We support industries where the margin for error is small and the consequences are serious. Our work is practical, compliance-driven, and focused on real-world response.

IRET operates across mining, industrial, construction, and maintenance environments, providing both on-site rescue capability and training for workers who need to respond effectively in an emergency.

Leadership and experience

IRET is led by Chris Short, a senior emergency response and rescue professional with decades of experience in mining and high-risk industrial environments. Chris has been involved in the emergency response industry since 1985 and has worked across mine sites, shutdowns, and complex operations throughout Australia and internationally.

His experience informs how IRET approaches rescue standby and training. Practical systems. Clear roles. Fast, effective response when conditions change.

Chris maintains hands-on involvement in operations and training delivery, ensuring IRET’s services reflect real site pressures and current mining requirements, not theory.
“Rescue systems only work if they match what actually happens on site. That’s always been the focus.”

Rescue standby
you can rely on

Rescue standby is not just about having people on site. It’s about readiness, experience, and understanding how your site actually operates.

IRET supplies trained rescue professionals for high-risk activities, including:

  • Confined space entry and rescue

  • Working at heights

  • Shutdowns, maintenance works, and critical tasks

  • Emergency response support during live operations

Our teams integrate with your site safety systems, permits, and procedures. We work alongside your crews, not around them.
When something goes wrong, response time and decision-making matter. That is where experience counts.

Practical training for real work

IRET delivers emergency and rescue training that reflects the conditions people face on site.
Training focuses on practical skills, clear decision-making, and working under pressure. It is designed for people who may need to act in real emergencies, not just meet compliance requirements.

Where nationally recognised training is required, courses are delivered through our third-party partner Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909, with online booking available via the Courses page.
